 Smart Lighting Control System

The SLCS (Smart Lighting Control System) applies the latest technology to create an intelligent, flexible, distributed and affordable lighting control system. The SLCS doesn't need expensive Central Processing Unit (CPU) and complicated software for configuration and operation. 

The SLCS can be applied from small to very large lighting control system. The smallest SLCS can be just single control unit (Load Terminal Unit) and single IS (Intelligent Switch).


 Easy to Configure without Complicated Software

The SLCS can be configured by using only the DIP switch on LTU to set the address, the rotary switch and dip switch on IS4X to set the Single, Group or Pattern modes. The system configuration is done by using auto learning mode, where one only needs to specify the desired combination of circuits and buttons, and the system will automatically "learn" the desired configuration. There is no need for complicated software or special tools to configure the system.

 

 Multiple and Distributed Points of Access

The SLCS can be accessed from wherever it is convenient and it is possible to have multiple control points for the same lighting load or the same group of lighting load. For a SLCS system, the various controllers (LTU - Load Terminal Units) are wired together in a daisy chain pattern, with the IS (Intelligent Switches) connected to the LTUs. This network configuration allows for easy expansion of the system by allowing new devices to be added wherever there is an existing D-Bus in place.

 

 No Central Processing Unit Required

The SLCS is a distributed system with control and access devices located at wherever is convenient. Hence it eliminates the most basic requirement of many digital lighting control systems which is the need for a central controller. Without a central controller, the SLCS eliminates one of the most costly components of implementing a digital lighting control system. Making even the most basic and minimal digital lighting control system economical enough to be afforded by even small enterprises.

 

 Two Wires D-Bus Network

The SLCS makes use of a proprietary network called the D-Bus. The D-Bus serves as the network backbone of the SLCS. All the various SLCS devices are physically linked together and communicate through the D-Bus. The D-Bus consists of only 2 signal wires for communication between the various SLCS devices. By using only 2 wires, the SLCS greatly simplifies a new installation that requires digital lighting control. All the devices in the network are connected to each other in a daisy chain formation, with the physical wire being able to be typically extended up to 1000 meters without the need for special repeater devices. 


 Large System Capacity

The SLCS has the capacity of integrating up to 64 LTUs, each LTU can have up to 4 relay loads which allow for a total of 256 lighting loads. This capacity can be used to support small to very large commercial building or public facilitis.

The number of IS (Intelligent Switch) devices on the network however is virtually unlimited, as there is no hard limit but rather limited only by the length of the physical wiring.

 

 Integration with a Central Host

Although the SLCS can be entirely implemented using only its various devices at any scale. The SLCS can also be integrated with a central host when necessary. The SLCS provides a communications gateway device (CC500 and CC1000) that converts between the D-Bus and the industry standard Modbus. By using the Modbus protocol, the SLCS can be easily interfaced with many industry software that has Modbus protocol support.

 

 Various User Control Devices 

In addition to the basic intelligent switches. The SLCS also has other user control devices including a touch panel, remote control, web-based controller and web-based scheduler.

 

 

 

 No Central Processing Unit Required 

The SLCS was designed with a distributed system of devices akin to a peer to peer network. Hence it eliminates the requirement of Central Processing Unit. Without a central processing unit, the SLCS eliminates the single point of failure causing whole system crash issue. Also, it eliminates the most costly component of implementing a digital lighting control system.

The SLCS configuration is simple and it doesn't need complicated software or special setup tools. For a person without SLCS experience, it only takes about 30 minutes to learn the configuration and operation of the SLCS system.
